Additional Fire Restrictions on the North Kaibab Ranger District
FREEDONIA, Ariz. – Additional fire restrictions will go into effect on the North Kaibab Ranger District Friday at 8 a.m. as dry, warm conditions continue across the area. The restrictions will prohibit fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves anywhere on the forest, including in developed campgrounds.
The restrictions also limit smoking to enclosed vehicles or buildings. Other restrictions prohibit using a chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine from 11:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m, discharging a firearm unless engaged in a lawful hunt, using explosives or welding. Fireworks are never allowed on National Forest System lands.
Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters that can be turned off are allowed.
Dustin Burger, Acting North Kaibab District Ranger says, “These measures are necessary to protect public health and provide for safety due to high fire danger. We appreciate the public’s assistance in preventing wildfires from starting.”
The fire restrictions will remain in place until conditions change significantly. Violation of the prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000, imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
