Moonset Pit to Open May 12

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – It is that time of year again to rake, prune and gather debris around your property and deposit it at Moonset Pit. The Pit will be open starting Saturday, May 12. It is located on National Forest land west of Parks and east of Spitz Springs on the north side of Old Route 66.

You can take steps to reduce the risk of wildfire damage to your home.  Clearing flammable material away from your home reduces the risk of a wildfire from starting or spreading on your property.

Fire personnel and community volunteers will staff Moonset from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure access and prevent disposal of unauthorized materials.  Community members can only deposit natural, woody debris at the Pit.

Open dates are: May 12, May 26, June 9, June 23, July 7, July 28, Aug. 11, Aug. 25, Sept. 8, Sept. 22 and tentatively Oct. 13 & Oct. 27.

Moonset Pit is a customer service offered by the Kaibab National Forest and the communities of Parks and Sherwood Forest Estates in coordination with the Rural Communities Fuels Management Partnership (RCFMP). The RCFMP provides assistance for protecting private property from the risk of wildfire through tree thinning projects. Information on the RCFMP is available by calling 928-523-8676 or on the web http://redrockcountry.org/rcfmp/

For more information on the Moonset Pit call Ray Raetzel at 928-635-0059 or Anne Dudley at 928-635-0417.
