Be Fire Safe Year Round
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Although it is still winter, spring is fast approaching, and it will not be long before campers start heading to the forest to recreate, which makes it a good time to remind the public about fire safety. Patches of snow remain across the forest; however, there are areas where there is no snow cover and the vegetation is drying quickly. These conditions can contribute to fire spread if one starts – even in February – as observed recently on the Rabbit Fire. As a reminder, never leave a fire unattended, avoid making a fire during the windy part of the day, and ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area. Never leave coals smoldering. Always carry a shovel and water to stir and drown the fire until it is cold to the touch.
