Pile Burning Today near Williams WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire crews are burning slash piles today on the Williams Ranger District. Conditions are favorable for
crews to ignite approximately 95 acres of piles near Holden Lake and 110 acres of piles west of Williams around Cataract Lake.
The forecast shows snow, east winds and good ventilation with the current storm system. Fire managers expect smoke to travel west of the project
areas. The moisture will help prevent fire from spreading into the surrounding vegetation.
Piles are made of stacked tree slash cut during thinning projects. The goals of thinning and pile burning are to reduce fire hazard and return
