Chugach National Forest Youth Climate Change Expeditions Gain National Recognition

Juneau, Alaska– The Association of Partners for Public Lands announced yesterday that the Chugach Children’s Forest Youth Climate Change Expeditions educational program took an honorable mention in their 2011 Media and Partnership Awards Educational Program Category.

“It’s wonderful that the Chugach National Forest’s partnership with Alaska Geographic  in this youth education program has gained national recognition,” said Alaska Forest Service Regional Forester Beth Pendleton. “Alaska is on the cutting edge of climate change and the youth that participate in this program are able to get up close and personal with nature in remote areas that are experiencing climate change in a big way.”

Alaska Geographic’s web site contains the stories of the expeditions in the participant’s own words and images.  Visit the site at:

The Association of Partners for Public Lands said that this year’s entries in the awards were a perfect fit for this year’s theme, “Broadening Our Horizons.” They said entries demonstrated new ways to incorporate multi-media technology, partnerships, sustainability, and education to expand outreach to public lands visitors and enthusiasts.
