Hobble Fire Update
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Hobble Fire continues to grow 18 miles northeast of Williams near the Hobble Mountains. The lightning-caused fire is approximately 176 acres and moving at a moderate pace to the north and east.
Officials have designated a 58,000-acre area where the fire will be managed for resource objectives over the coming weeks. Some of the objectives fire managers are working to achieve are protecting wildlife habitat, returning fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, and reducing hazardous fuel accumulation.
Today, crews will be holding the fire and scouting the area for future management actions that may need to be taken to maintain fire spread within the defined boundary. The weather forecast shows dry and breezy conditions continuing for the next few days. Fire crews are expecting increased activity under this current weather pattern.
The fire is burning within Game Management Unit 7W, a popular area for hunting and camping. If you are planning to camp in Game Management Unit 7W, please be aware there will be personnel and equipment working in the fire vicinity. Smoke will be visible during the day and may linger in surrounding areas overnight. In addition, you may need to move your camp if fire activity increases in your direction.
