WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Significant rain fell on the Juniper Fire, 18 miles northeast of Williams, slowing fire progression considerably. It is now approximately 415 acres. There was widespread smoke Tuesday in the Parks and Spring Valley areas due to cloud cover and thunderstorms parked over the fire.

Prior to the rain, crews were able to complete hand and aerial ignitions on the north and east sides of the fire.  These actions were implemented to reduce the potential for high intensity fire spread.

“Even though the fire was pelted with heavy rain, the fire is not out,” said Dave Pearce, Juniper Fire Incident Commander. “We will continue working on the fire, checking what we accomplished today and developing a plan for future management actions.”

Approximately 20 personnel will be monitoring and patrolling the fire. While fire activity has slowed, smoke may still be visible from time to time in and around the fire area.

The National Weather Service predicts the current trend of isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain through this week.
