Eagle Rock Fire Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Fire crews assigned to the Eagle Rock Fire observed minimal activity on Thursday. The fire is 11 miles northeast of Williams and remains at 3,420 acres and 90 percent contained.

Today’s operations will concentrate on mopping up hot spots and patrolling the perimeter.  Smoldering logs and stumps will continue to produce light smoke.

While the area around the fire remains closed for entry to the public due to hazards such as smoldering stump holes, weakened trees, and rolling rocks and logs, other areas of the forest are not affected by the Eagle Rock Fire.

Forest visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions this time of year. Today’s forecast is calling for gusty winds and developing thunderstorms.

Fire restrictions are in effect on the Kaibab National Forest as of Wednesday, June 23. Due to high fire danger, these restrictions are deemed necessary to protect public health and safety and prevent human-caused wildfires.

Under these fire restrictions, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds only. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles, buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters meeting safety specifications are allowed.
