Kaibab National Forest Proposes
Greenway Trail and Parking Lot Project
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – The Kaibab National Forest is proposing a project that authorizes the National Park Service to construct, operate, and maintan a paved pedestrian/bike trail, adjacent dirt equestrian trail, and a parking lot near the community of Tusayan. The proposed Greenway Trail and Parking Lot project is located on Forest Service land, west of State Highway 64, adjacent to the National Geographic Visitor Center Complex.
The project is proposed to provide an alternative means to access Grand Canyon National Park for hikers, cyclists, and equestrian users. The parking lot would provide approximately 100 passenger vehicle parking spaces and include an automated park entrance pass kiosk, restrooms, trailhead/parking lot signs, and an information kiosk.
The purpose of this notice is to invite meaningful public involvement on the project proposal. Public input will help the agency determine the scope of issues related to the proposed action.
Information can be found about the proposed project at http://fs.usda.gov/goto/kaibab/projects. Copies of the proposed action and project area map can also be obtained from the Tusayan Ranger District. Comments may be written, hand-delivered, oral, and electronically delivered on or before July 7, 2010. Hand-delivered comments can be submitted to the Tusayan Ranger District office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Email comments also may be submitted via electronic mail (.doc, .txt, .pdf, and .rtf only) to: comments-southwestern-kaibab@xxxxxxxxx. Please include “Greenway Project” in the subject line of the email for easy identification.
