Reel in the memories with Family Fishing Days on the Tongass
Ketchikan, AK — Taking the family fishing? While you’re grabbing your fishing gear, don’t forget your camera, because there is nothing to compare to a child’s look of amazement and excitement when they hook their first fish.
The Tongass National Forest has several family fishing events happening throughout the summer, perfect for families that are experienced fishers, as well as those new to the sport. Each event is held in partnership with a variety of businesses and organizations.
The family fishing events also feature a variety of other activities, depending upon location, such as fish printing (Gyotaku), games, information booths, obstacle courses, prizes and other outdoor activities as well as refreshments.
The first of the family fishing activities begin this Saturday, June 12, designated as National Get Outdoors Day.

Reeling ‘em in
Juneau resident Beck Schneider, 3, tries to catch his first fish at last year’s Family Fishing Day in Juneau. He was successful in his endeavor, and caught a small fish. Now at age 4, he’ll be trying for a bigger catch this Saturday at Twin Lakes.
