Kaibab National Forest Plans to Burn Slash Piles
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire specialists are requesting approval from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to burn slash piles tomorrow on the Williams Ranger District. Upon approval from ADEQ, personnel will determine whether appropriate conditions exist to ignite five acres of slash piles on Thursday, April 29 near Spring Valley, approximately seven miles north of the community of Parks and I-40. The burn location is T23N/R4E/S28.
Although winds are gusty today, the forecast indicates lighter winds and a chance of precipitation Thursday through Sunday. Fire crews plan to ignite the piles early in the morning allowing time for the smoke to disperse by early evening. Personnel expect smoke to drift northeast with some smoke settling in and around Spring Valley.
We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts people in our community. We strive to keep community members, particularly those with sensitivities to smoke, informed of our plans and activities.
