Kaibab National Forest Plans to Burn Slash Piles

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire specialists plan to burn slash piles early next week on the Williams Ranger District depending on conditions and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval.  Personnel are preparing to burn five acres of slash piles on Monday or Tuesday, April 19 or 20 near Spring Valley, approximately seven miles north of the community of Parks and I-40. The burn location is T23N/R4E/S28.
If conditions are appropriate, fire crews will ignite the piles early in the morning allowing time for the smoke to disperse by early evening. The forecast shows a chance of precipitation and light southwest winds early in the week. Personnel expect smoke to drift northeast with some smoke settling in and around Spring Valley.
We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts people in our community.  We strive to keep community members, particularly those with sensitivities to smoke, informed of our plans and activities.
