Pile Burning Planned on Williams Ranger District
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire managers are requesting approval to continue burning slash piles Friday, Dec. 11, on the Williams Ranger District. Pending Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) approval and appropriate weather conditions, Kaibab National Forest personnel are planning to ignite piles eight miles east of Williams, just south of I-40.
The slash piles are near Sherwood Forest Estates and total approximately 33 acres. The recent snowfall will diminish the potential for fire to spread.
Ignition will start early in the day and smoke production will be monitored closely. Officials expect smoke to drift northeast with light smoke impacts to the surrounding areas of Pineaire Estates, Garland Prairie and Sherwood Forest Estates.
We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts our community. We appreciate your tolerance to some smoke now in order to reduce the future occurrence of severe wildfires.
