Update Nov 2, 11:20 a.m. -- Ignition has begun on the Fort Valley prescribed burn.  Smoke will be noticeable north of Flagstaff and in the Fort Valley and Baderville areas.
Due to unfavorable wind direction, fire managers cancelled the Blue Ridge Urban Interface burn planned for today. They will re-evaluate for tomorrow.

Tentative prescribed fire plans for the week of November 2

Flagstaff, AZ
– Pending favorable conditions, fire managers are planning prescribed fires on the following projects for the week of November 2.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (
www.azdeq.gov).

Monday, November 2

Blue Ridge Urban Interface (BRUI) Project
– 800 acres north of Highway 87, approximately 12 miles northeast of Clint’s Well.  Crews will only burn with a south wind to minimize smoke impacts to the highway.

Fort Valley Project
– 55 acres north of Flagstaff off Highway 180 near Fort Valley Ranch Road.  This is a maintenance broadcast burn, meaning the area has been previously treated with prescribed fire.  With less fuels being consumed, smoke on maintenance burns is generally lighter, however, some smoke will be noticeable in the Fort Valley and Baderville areas.

Projects crews will consider for the remainder of the week:
*Projects may not all be accomplished depending on conditions*
Continuing the BRUI, Ft. Valley, and Eastside Projects

East Clear Creek Project
near Knoll Lake and Forest Road 300 (“Rim Road”)

Bald Mesa Project
North of Clint’s Well off Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Rd)

Anderson Mesa Project
East of Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road), north of Ashurst Lake

Mint Project
East of Lake Mary Rd near Mormon Lake Village

Pete Project
North of the San Francisco Peaks, west of Highway 89
