Prescribed fire plans for Wednesday

Flagstaff, AZ – With cooler temperatures and moisture in the forecast, conditions could be ideal for crews to conduct prescribed pile burns. Piles consist of the slash and debris from forest thinning projects and typically produce less noticeable smoke when burned.

Pending favorable conditions, fire managers are planning prescribed fires on the following projects Wednesday October 28.
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).

Eastside Project: 50 acres of pile burning located off Townsend-Winona Road near Lumberjack Blvd and Hutton Ranch Road.  Smoke will disperse to the east and north, and residual smoke should be minimal as piles will be fully consumed before the end of the day. Some light smoke may be noticeable on Townsend -Winona Rd.
Bald Mesa Project: 100 acres of pile burning east of Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road), north of Clint’s Well.  Smoke will disperse to the east and will be visible from FH3.  Some light residual smoke may be noticeable around FH3 and the Clear Creek Pines subdivision overnight.
