Forest Service invites public to help shape road use policy

Juneau, AK – The U.S. Forest Service is holding a series of public meetings and subsistence hearings in March to seek input on road use on Admiralty National Monument and Juneau Ranger District. About 60 miles of roads are being evaluated as part of the process to develop an Access Travel Management plan for the districts. The process will ultimately result in the publication of a Motor Vehicle Use Map designating which roads on the districts are open to motorized vehicle use.

Public comments will help the Forest Service develop alternatives and an Environmental Assessment for the project area, which includes the Juneau mainland, Admiralty Island, and the Couverden vicinity. At present, the agency is not proposing any changes to motorized travel on the existing road and trail systems on the districts.

Informational meetings, followed by separate subsistence hearings, will be held as indicated below:

Angoon                ACA Tribal Office                March 2,         5-7 p.m.
Juneau                Juneau Ranger District                March 4,         5-7 p.m.
