WASHINGTON, D.C., July 29, 2022 – On Tuesday, August 2, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael S. Regan, and White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu will travel to Lowndes County, Alabama to announce the Biden Administration’s new water infrastructure initiative for underserved rural communities. Administration officials will join Congresswoman Terri Sewell and environmental justice advocate Catherine Coleman Flowers to discuss solutions to longstanding environmental justice concerns for residents dealing with the impacts of pollution.
On Monday, August 1, USDA and EPA staff will host an afternoon press tour in Lowndes County, where media will have an opportunity to see first-hand the pollution challenges in the community and speak with impacted residents.
On Tuesday, August 2, Secretary Vilsack, Administrator Regan, and Coordinator Landrieu will meet with residents and community leaders during a tour of a home facing harmful exposure to backyard sewage, host a community roundtable and hold a press conference to announce this new partnership to deliver critical rural water infrastructure through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Secretary Vilsack and Administrator Regan will be available to media for questions.
