(Washington, D.C., July 24, 2020) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will be in Asheville, NC MONDAY, July 27th to visit Flavor 1st, a partner in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which has distributed nearly 50 million food boxes in support of American farmers and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Secretary will also hold a forestry roundtable on shared stewardship with USDA Forest Service Chief Vicki Christiansen and participate in a broadband ReConnect Program Announcement. The millions of dollars in ReConnect funding announced Monday will deploy high-speed broadband in rural North Carolina, benefitting thousands of people in Madison County.
 
Secretary Perdue to hold Farmers to Families Food Box Event
WHAT: Secretary Perdue and North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler will visit Flavor 1st, one of USDA’s partners in North Carolina helping feed Americans in need through USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which has distributed nearly 50 million food boxes in support of American farmers and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. WHAT: Secretary Perdue, Commissioner Troxler, and Chief Christiansen will participate in a forestry roundtable discussion focused on developments and progress North Carolina’s shared stewardship agreement with USDA. Following the event, Secretary Perdue will hold a media availability.
