Advisory: Secretary Perdue Visits an Elementary School, Addresses the US Telecom Board and Hosts a Food Waste Event with the EPA and the FDA
(Washington, D.C., October 17, 2018) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will visit Discovery Elementary School in support of National School Lunch Week, speak to the US Telecom Board of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C., then host the “Reducing Food Waste Showcase” event with Environmental Protection Agency Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D.
Secretary Perdue to visit Discovery Elementary School for National School Lunch Week
WHAT: Secretary Perdue will visit the Discovery Elementary School to meet with food service staff and help serve the students their lunch. The Secretary will eat lunch with the students and staff. Following lunch, Secretary Perdue will hold a media availability.

Secretary Perdue to Speak to the US Telecom Board of Directors
WHAT: Secretary Perdue will speak to the US Telecom Board of Directors meeting and discuss efforts to improve broadband infrastructure. Following the meeting, Secretary Perdue will hold a media availability.

Secretary Perdue to host the EPA and FDA for the “Reducing Food Waste Showcase” Event
WHAT: Secretary Perdue will host the Environmental Protection Agency Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. to discuss efforts to combat food waste with business, agency, and stakeholder partnerships. Following the event, Secretary Perdue will hold a media availability with Acting Administrator Wheeler and Commissioner Gottlieb.
*Note: A food waste reduction panel will be held after the announcement and will feature speakers from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, Campus Kitchens Project, University of Arkansas, and the American Farm Bureau Federation.
