ADVISORY: Secretary Perdue Tours the National Detector Dog Training Center
To mark the 51st anniversary of the Animal Welfare Act, USDA honors our 4-legged friends
(Washington, D.C., August 21, 2017) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will mark the week of the 51st anniversary of the Animal Welfare Act by visiting the National Detector Dog Training Center in Newnan, Georgia on Thursday, August 24th. Secretary Perdue will tour the facility and observe Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) canines and handlers demonstrate how they locate and eradicate invasive or diseased foreign plants that have crossed America’s borders – the canines at this facility are shelter dogs. Also this week, on Tuesday, August 22nd, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will host its very first Bring Your Dog to Work Day.
