Media Advisory No. 0092.15 Contact: NATIONAL MEDIA CALL TODAY at 2:30 p.m.: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Host National Media Call on the Trans-Pacific Partnership WASHINGTON, Oct. 6, 2015 – TODAY at 2:30 p.m., Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will hold a national media call to discuss how the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) provides a more level playing field in trade for American farmers. U.S. exports of agricultural products to TPP countries totaled $63 billion in 2014, 42 percent of total U.S. agricultural exports. Thanks to this agreement and its removal of unfair trade barriers, American agricultural exports to the region will expand even further. The agreement would eliminate or significantly reduce tariffs on agriculture products and deter non-science based sanitary and phytosanitary barriers that have put American agriculture at a disadvantage in TPP countries in the past. Prior to today’s call, Secretary Vilsack will host a meeting attended by President Obama at USDA with agriculture and business leaders to discuss the benefits of the TPP. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 WHAT: DIAL-IN: 800-857-9832 Passcode: TRADE (Given Verbally) Trouble number – 202-720-8560 To join the Q&A portion of the meeting, reporters are instructed to press *1 Members of the media wishing to participate in this call should RSVP to Rachael Dubinsky at rachael.dubinsky@xxxxxxxxxxx. #
