We Can’t Wait: Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to Announce Largest Ever Government Purchase of Biofuel
WASHINGTON, December 5, 2011 —U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will hold a conference call Monday to announce the single largest purchase of advanced “drop-in” biofuel in government history by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
As part of the announcement, Secretary Mabus and Secretary Vilsack will provide an update on the administration’s progress toward President Obama’s directive included in the “Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future,” which was released in March, to advance a domestic industry capable of producing “drop-in” biofuel substitutes for diesel and jet fuel. Secretary Mabus will also announce a major U.S. Navy demonstration of the biofuel which will be used to fuel a variety of aircraft, ships, and unmanned vehicles.
