FEATURE – USDA GUARANTEES LOAN FOR BIOFUEL PLANT
INTRO: The U-S Department of Agriculture has issued a loan guarantee to support construction of a waste to energy bio-processing facility in Florida. The U-S-D-A’s Bob Ellison has more. (1:26)
ONCE BUILT, A BIO-FUELS FACILITY IN VERO BEACH, FLORIDA HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CREATE ENERGY AND JOBS.
Tom Vilsack, Agriculture Secretary: The opportunity to take municipal waste, to take agricultural waste, to take woody biomass, and other carbon based feedstocks and put it through a patented process producing not only ethanol but also power to not only take care of the plant’s energy needs but also to potentially add to the grid is about that renewable energy future and that biofuel future the President talks about.
THE U-S DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE’S RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY IS BACKING THE PROJECT WITH A SEVENTY FIVE MILLION DOLLAR LOAN GUARANTEE TO HELP COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION AND GET IT RUNNING.
Vilsack: This is one of a number of projects that we have across the country in an effort to try to spur the development of alternative fuels. It’s about putting people to work. These construction workers are an example of folks who are working to build this facility then it will be home to approximately fifty three employees with a broad range of experiences and about a four million dollar payroll.
ONCE RUNNING, THE PLANT SHOULD PRODUCE AROUND EIGHT MILLION GALLONS OF CELLULOSIC ETHANOL.
Peter Williams, CEO INEOS New Plant Energy: It’s the first of its kind in the world bioengineered facility. It’s taking waste material from the local area, and converting that into fuel, gasoline for cars and also for renewable electricity.
THE FACILITY SHOULD BE BUILT BY THE SUMMER OF TWENTY-TWELVE. FOR THE U-S DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, I’M BOB ELLISON.
