Agriculture Secretary Vilsack Joins Partners to Highlight Anti-Hunger Initiatives

Public-Private Partnerships Aim to Connect More Children and Families to Nutrition Programs

 

WASHINGTON,  April 29, 2011 – TODAY, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will join Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick Corvington and Bread for the City Executive Director George Jones to raise awareness about hunger in America and to highlight new resources available to engage communities and increase access to nutrition assistance programs to those in need.

More than 50 million Americans are at risk of hunger, including 17 million children. USDA provides nutrition assistance to 1 in 4 Americans, but there are still many more who are eligible but are not being served. Partnerships between government, non-profit and faith-based organizations and the private sector are required to better serve those who need assistance putting food on the table.  This announcement will address the federal response to ending hunger and discuss other strategies to ensure all Americans have access to food.
