USDA Announces 2010 SNAP Hunger Champion Awards
BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 19, 2010 — USDA Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon today announced the 2010 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Hunger Champion Award recipients. The awardees demonstrate exemplary service conducting outreach activities and assisting eligible clients to obtain nutrition benefits.
"Putting healthy food within reach for low income Americans has never been more important," said Concannon. "These local offices have gone the extra mile to reach out to and educate needy members of their communities about the nutrition benefits of SNAP and how to apply. Through innovative strategies and creative partnerships, these honorees serve as models for local offices across the country."
Hunger Champion awardees are recognized with a plaque or certificate of accomplishment according to their level of recognition. Gold awardees were invited to the American Public Human Service Association's (APHSA) annual conference for State SNAP Directors in Boise, Idaho, this week to share their outreach strategies with USDA and other States.
