USDA Official to Speak at Healthy Students, Healthy Schools Fuel Up to Play 60 Event
WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2010—USDA Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon will address students at Southern Middle School in Lothian, Maryland on September 2 to promote Fuel Up to Play 60. A partnership of USDA, National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League, Fuel Up to Play 60 empowers youth to take action and improve nutrition/physical activity at their schools. Select students from the area elementary and high schools will also attend the event.
Fuel Up to Play 60 was designed to engage and empower youth to take action for their own health by implementing long-term, positive changes for themselves and their schools. The program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
