  Statement by Secretary Vilsack on Death of Wisconsin Agriculture Secretary Nilsestuen
   

Washington, July 22, 2010 - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today issued the following statement regarding the passing of Rod Nilsestuen, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection:

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Secretary Nilsestuen. He was a tireless advocate for the farmers and ranchers of Wisconsin and provided steady leadership and guidance during a time of great challenge. His dedication to expanding economic opportunities for the people of Wisconsin - from biofuels development to building robust local and regional food systems - will live on through the numerous programs and projects he has championed. We honor Secretary Nilsestuen and his achievements, and offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, loved ones, friends and fellow Wisconsin Department of Agriculture employees affected by this tragic event."
