USDA Plans to Unveil Three Showcase Watersheds Targeted for Accelerated Water Quality Improvements in the Chesapeake Bay Basin
WASHINGTON, June 17, 2010 – Tomorrow, June 18, Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan will unveil three showcase watershed pilots designed to demonstrate what can be achieved by combining strong partnerships, sound science and funding to solve natural resource problems in a targeted area in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. In the showcase watersheds, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its partners will spur intensive conservation treatment of agricultural lands during the next several years to demonstrate measurable improvements in water quality.
USDA will hold events in three states—Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia—to unveil the showcase watersheds.
