USDA'S MAY 11, 2010, WORLD AGRICULTURAL SUPPLY AND DEMAND ESTIMATES REPORT TO INCORPORATE SOME CHANGES
WASHINGTON, May 4, 2010 – The May 11 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, which will be released at 8:30 a.m., will present USDA's initial assessment of U.S. and world crop supply and demand prospects and U.S. prices for the 2010/11 marketing year. It will also present the first calendar-year 2011 projections of U.S. livestock, poultry, and dairy products. In addition, the May 11 WASDE report will also introduce these changes to the rice, livestock, and dairy tables:
On page 14, season-average farm price estimates and forecasts will continue to be reported for long-grain and combined medium- and short-grain rice. The aggregate all rice season-average price line will be deleted.
On page 31, the Eastern Region Turkey Hen price will be replaced by the National Turkey Hen price and the Nebraska Direct Choice Steer price will be replaced with the 5-Area Total all grades Steer price. A monthly historical data series for the National Turkey Hen price and the 5-Area Total all grades Steer price will be available May 11 at 8:45 a.m. EDT at: www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/wasde/revisions/historical.htm.
On page 33, dairy imports will be revised to account for additional products, which will increase aggregate import levels on both a fat and skim-solids basis, and hence domestic use. Historical revisions to the dairy supply and utilization tables reflecting the new import series will also be available at: www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/wasde/revisions/historical.htm.
The monthly WASDE report will continue to be released at 8:30 a.m. EDT. In addition to the current TXT and PDF versions, USDA will also post XML and Microsoft Excel file versions of the report by noon EST on release days in May and June at: www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/wasde/newformat.htm.
These new formats are being made available for two months for testing purposes. Beginning on July 9, 2010, the WASDE report will be released in all four formats at 8:30 a.m. EDT on the OCE Website. On Oct. 8, 2010, USDA will discontinue issuing the TXT file version.
Current WASDE report and information on how the report is prepared is at: www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/wasde/.
