Merrigan Will Highlight Obama Administration Renewable Energy Efforts; USDA’s ‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food’ Initiative

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2010—This week, Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan will participate in a series of events in Hawaii highlighting the Obama Administration efforts to promote renewable energy. Merrigan’s visit will include several biofuels related announcements, impacting both Hawaii as well as other parts of the country.  Earlier this year, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support Obama Administration efforts to reduce energy consumption derived from fossil fuels and increase energy production from renewable energy sources. This energy initiative in Hawaii is a direct result of that MOU.
