Friday: Commerce and USDA Officials to Hold Broadband Stimulus Grant and Loan Workshop in Atlanta
WASHINGTON – On Friday, February 12, the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) will hold one of ten nationwide public broadband grant and loan workshops in Atlanta, Georgia.
Earlier this month, RUS and NTIA announced the availability of $4.8 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act loans and grants aimed at expanding broadband access, bridging the technological divide, creating jobs and building Internet infrastructure. The workshops are designed to help prospective applicants better understand the mission, scope, process, and requirements of applying for these funds through NTIA and RUS.

Outreach session: In addition, NTIA will host an outreach session at the above location on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The session will address developing partnerships for projects that address the concerns and challenges of unserved and underserved communities, including the potential role of small and minority businesses, and minority serving institutions of higher education in such partnerships.
