Statement by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on the Director General of the Inter-American Institute
October 02, 2009
"Today, the United States is pleased to announce its support for the candidacy of Dr. Victor Manuel Villalobos Arambula of Mexico for the position of Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) located in San José, Costa Rica. Dr. Villalobos would be an excellent leader for IICA as the organization works to address pressing issues in the Americas.
"Dr. Villalobos has the experience, abilities and vision to manage and lead IICA as it continues to move toward its significant goals. IICA was cofounded more than 65 years ago by former Secretary of Agriculture Dr. Henry Wallace, a fellow Iowan. Throughout the years, IICA has focused on improving agriculture policies, trade, science and technology, natural resources, agricultural health, rural development and education in the Americas. The work of IICA is critical to the health of agriculture and to rural economies throughout the Hemisphere. Dr. Villalobos will ensure that this work continues even as the new challenges of food security, climate change and economic instability arise."
