U.S. CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENCE PROGRAM RELEASES CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT
WASHINGTON, May 23, 2007 -- The U.S. Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) will release the report ¡§Synthesis and Assessment Product (SAP) 4.3: The Effects of Climate Change on Agriculture, Land Resources, Water Resources, and Biodiversity¡¨ at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. USDA is the lead agency in preparing the report as part of its commitment to CCSP.
WHO: The lead authors of Synthesis and Assessment Product 4.3 (SAP 4.3): ¡§The Effects of Climate Change on Agriculture, Land Resources, Water Resources, and Biodiversity¡¨ will present the report¡¦s findings and conclusions.
WHAT: A press conference call will be held to announce the report¡¦s release and discuss its major conclusions.
CCSP¡¦s strategic plan calls for the production of 21 SAPs that respond to high priority research, observation, and decision support needs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responsible for producing one of these reports (SAP 4.3). The report addresses the effects of climate change on agriculture, land resources, water resources, and biodiversity, with a focus on the next 25-50 years. SAP 4.3 has 38 authors, has undergone expert peer review by 14 scientists, and uses over 1,000 references. The report contains more than 80 findings on the effects of climate change in the United States.
