JOHANNS NAMES MEMBERS, ALTERNATES TO THE NATIONAL HONEY BOARD
WASHINGTON, Feb. 28, 2007 -- Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today announced the appointment of four members and four alternates to serve on the National Honey Board. Each member and alternate -- nominated by the National Honey Nominations Committee -- will serve a three-year term of office beginning on April 1, 2007, and ending on March 31, 2010.
Newly appointed members and alternates are: Producer - Region 2: James Daniel Rodenberg, Wolf Point, Mont., member; and Jerry Brown, Haddam, Kan., alternate; and Producer - Region 3: Zac Browning, Jamestown, N.D., member; and Joan Gunter, Towner, N.D., alternate.
Reappointed members and alternates are: Producer - Region 1: George K. Hansen, Colton, Ore., member; and Glenda K. Wooten, Palo Cedro, Calif., alternate; and Handler: Nancy J. Gamber Olcott, Lancaster, Pa., member; and Steven C. Smith, Victorville, Calif., alternate.
The National Honey Board -- authorized by the Honey Research, Promotion and Consumer Information Act -- administers an industry-funded coordinated research, promotion, consumer education, and industry information program to increase honey consumption in the United States and abroad. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors the operations of the board. The Honey Research, Promotion, and Consumer Information Order, Section 1240.32, authorizes the establishment of a National Honey Nominations Committee.
