Hard to say what could be the solution. First of all never write directly to maildir folder and never delete or change whatever there - let the client do this for you. KMail-Trinity has some issues even without a bridge. I use it extensively with IMAP and from time to time it crashes. You have to distinguish the local maildir and the IMAP (incl. protonmail).
