| IMO you need all these 3 places to be changed - note: use a valid
| Xcursor theme name if you want to change it from default:

Thanks. That's very helpful. The problem, though, isn't that they're not 
big enough but in the case of the I-beam -- the main offender -- too thin. 
Think the difference between regular and boldface.

Armed as I now am with the information you provided, I think I'll be able 
to edit a theme and make the appropriate cursors thicker, of a bright 
color, or both, and save 'em under their original name in their original 
place. 

Looking online, LibreOffice has been receiving complaints about this issue 
for over a decade. They've done all sorts of stuff of marginal use, but 
ignored a problem with their core product. Kind of reminds me of KDE . . .
