Thanks for the image and the impromptu Russian (?) lesson.

With that I was able to partially solve my problem.

For anyone interested, or who might be able to enlighten me about this
design decision, read on...

I wanted to look at an old archived set of entries, and thought I would
create a new calendar (File/new), add the old archive file as a resource to
that calendar, and then delete the calendar when done.  However, in the new
calendar, there is no "Resource View" in Settings/Sidebar (whereas it is
there in my old calendar).

At first glance, this fails to achieve the law of least astonishment, but
perhaps if I knew why this made sense, it wouldn't.

Anyone care to comment on whether their system shows "Resource View" for
the sidebar in a new calendar?
