Not so on my system (14.2):
- add ksysguard to panel
- 2 sensors show up, one blank
- open ksysguard application
- select any sensor from the tree view
- drag it over to the ksysguard panel
- select which type of graph you' like to see
- done

ksysguard application starts with a treeview left and an empty section on the rigt:
- file/new worksheet
- select how many raws and colums
- drag the sensors you'd like to see over from the treeview
- done

On a sidenote: once upon a time I had kysyguard running ll the the time, but nowadays I use conky :)
