I have been unable to find a cheap RF dongle headset. I have tried USB
Bluetooth, but they suck. I have Bluetooth on a laptop but the
headset microphone never seems to work.

I have a USB-3.5mm that works, it shows up in Linux as a new sound
card when plugged in, that and wired is the only way a microphone has
worked for me.
