If all else fails, you can look in ~/.trinity/share/config/kdeglobals for these settings:

EffectAnimateCombo
EffectAnimateMenu
EffectAnimateTooltip
EffectFadeMenu
EffectFadeTooltip
EffectNoTooltip
EffectsEnabled

and set them to false to get rid of some of the default effects.
