Are you searching for a text string? Sometimes a pdf document has been set by 
the creator to disable those features. (This is really annoying when that was 
my main reason for using a PDF file: to make research easier.)  

However ... I just tried to use the find feature in two different PDF 
documents, which are, I believe, totally free of restrictions. My results 
were the same as yours.
