Err, this can be one of those flaky file association deals. I see this one in
every blue-moon, but for reasons unknown, you will get an

  applications/x-kdeuser1  (2,3...)

created that may suppress the normal recognition of a file association.

The x-kdeuserX file association can be deliberately created when you create a
custom association (that's how it should work). Where the problem comes in is
if you inadvertently click an association property and one of the x-kdeuserX
files is created when you don't want it to. Always worth a check under the
"application" tree in file associations to see if one may have popped up.
