The first, and I apologize I can't give you a chapter and verse here, but I do recall an issue with 2-panels being triggered plasma/TDE, and if I recall it had to do with the /etc/xdg/autostart stuff plasma adds to the box. Check the autostart folder for anything suspicious. There is two of something running that is fighting for the same screen real estate. Second, the underlying graphics system (driver, etc..) should be the same no matter what desktop you are running. How xrandr is used or what plasma does on its own can effect DPMS, etc.., but what pumps pixels to the screen from your GPU should be desktop agnostic. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
