# kmail -v
Qt: 3.5.0
TDE: R14.0.4
KMail: 1.9.10 (enterprise35 0.20100827.1168748)

# cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="14.04.5 LTS, Trusty Tahr"
ID=ubuntu

The "Favorite Folders" box here shows unread mail numbers. I'm pretty sure
all my folders are 'maildir' format.

Try closing Kmail and re-starting it??

Hope that helps,
Michael
