I have many different varieties of Intel gfx here (0 laptops, so 0 Optimus; Kaby
Lake HD Graphics 630 latest). In none newer than about 11 years old do I install
xserver-xorg-video-intel. All work great with the modesetting driver contained
within the Xorg server since it was migrated into server in version 1.17.x.

With the Xorg intel driver package installed, the newer technology modesetting
driver will not be used unless manually configured.
