As  a file manager / servicemenu app launcher / ftp / audiocd ripper / image 
viewer and sometimes browser, konqueror has never failed me.
I love konq. 

That said, I use Krusader as an archiving tool. In that respect, it excels. In 
general is a good straight forward file manager, but to me, it's an archiver.

Then there's the essential and immortal MC, the little hero.
