Debian Stretch here. Same thing happened with tha last update/upgrade

Obviously Debian/Devuan got updated too and reset the display manager. As far 
as I am concerned it's not a bug, just an result of the distribution not 
respecting modifications by the user and going back to some config file it 
used for it's own setup.

I my case I found myself loging in from Gnome again.
