Depends on how much "automatic" you want/require. I prefer "not automatic" to
an automatic that fails.

I've set up a nice "Tablet/notebook" (Toshiba Z20T) with Debian and TDE.

I use "Smooth Blend" as windows decoration with a 46 pixels button size. The
icons are not the prettiest (I'd prefer "laptop" but they don't scale) but it
works.

I use "onboard" as virtual keyboard with a button in the panel to start it
when needed. Onboard does not appear automagically but then it does not
either clutter my screen when it wrongly "thinks" I need it as I've
experiences with other virtual keyboards.

Linux does not seem to have palm rejection, so I wrote a small tcl/tk app that
let's me stop touch when I write (note that this requires an *active* pen,
which anyway is the only thing that really lets you write correctly).

Desktop icons are at 48, toolbar icons at 22.

With these settings I use TDE on a touchscreen, and the Z20t let's you
separate the screen from the keyboard and use it as a tablet ( *AND* the
keyboard has my favorite track point :))

So, while there is certainly room for improvement, I'd say that TDE *is*
usable with a touchscreen if you are ready for some compromises.

Regards,

Thierry
