The other developers clearly agree with you that the spellchecker is fine and needs no work. You yourself obviously don't use this facility at all - only the red highlighting. Hence my original suggestion that it might be something that those of us who want it - I at any rate - might be prepared to pay a bounty for. Greg Madden obviously agrees with me that the disappearance of a menu entry might be worth a bug report.
