It was there.  I used it for years and years.

There are those who like icons and those who like the keyboard.  The other 
developers clearly agree with you that the spellchecker is fine and needs no 
work.  You yourself obviously don't use this facility at all - only the red 
highlighting.

Hence my original suggestion that it might be something that those of us who 
want it - I at any rate - might be prepared to pay a bounty for.  Greg Madden 
obviously agrees with me that the disappearance of a menu entry might be 
worth a bug report.
