If you want to use TDE on Stretch or Sid it is a good choice to use Preliminary Stable Builds repository: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Stable_Builds For Stretch (binutils 2.27.90.20161220) and Sid (binutils 2.27.90.20161231) is updated today.
